Why we celebrate Pride

We celebrate Pride because many of us have the memories of black eyes.

Bloody lips.

Lost jobs.

Cruel names.

Broken ribs.

Estranged families.

Dead friends.

We celebrate Pride because, after being kicked in the face, punched, called names, disowned, fired, and even killed - we NEED to remind one another that we still deserve to be here and be proud of who we are.

Don’t like pride celebrations?

Don’t go. Problem solved.

Or better yet, GO.

Try to expand your tiny mind.

Here’s an even better solution.

Don’t like pride celebrations?

Stop being awful to LGBTQIA people.

Problem solved.

If this toxically masculine world stopped bullying anyone who was “different” for about 20 years, maybe Pride would no longer be necessary.

Maybe then, we’d finally have a generation that didn’t know what it was like to be bullied, disowned, threatened, or killed - just for being who they were.

Until that happens, we have no choice BUT to keep celebrating our fabulous existence.

Don’t like us? Fine.

Go be miserable somewhere else.

We have some colorful parade floats to make.
